How EMV fits into mobile payment and its value added services
June 13, 2013

We have always dreamt of letting anyone accept card payments using almost any device, anywhere, anytime, in a secure manner. Imagine being able to use your card to pay for your insurance in a cafe, skincare products at the convenience of your own home or a pair of high heels at the night market. This year, our dream has become a reality.

It has been about four months since K-Merchant on Mobile service was first introduced in Thailand. We feel it’s a good time now to reflect and see how our EMV payment platform has been impacting the community and empowering local businesses in the north kingdom.

Through our partner in Thailand – Digio, we meet Shoes a Holic, a popular shoe stall in a night market along the Major Avenue Ratchayothin within Chatuchak district.

The founder of Shoes a Holic at the Major Avenue Ratchayothin’s Night Market.

As a street stall entrepreneur with tourists as his main customers – being able to accept card payments is vital. He understands the need to embrace technology in order to help increase sales and broaden his circle of customers. In a brief chat, he mentioned that it was a natural progression for him to upgrade from an EDC terminal to accepting card payments simply using a card reader. The mobility and simplicity of the concept has allowed him to take his business anywhere and his customers are excited with the convenience to pay. He also expressed that he’s proud to be embracing a payment innovation that is not commonly seen in a night market.

At Soft Space, we believe that every business should be entitled to the leisure of accepting card payments – no matter how big or small.

We are encouraged by our findings and feedback thus far – which will serve as a motivation for us to continue realising our dreams at a global level through our EMV Mobile-Point-of-Sale (MPOS) solution.
